LAVERA SUPPORTS CLIMATE PROTECTION

Our new products come in climate neutral packaging

lavera’s original formulas represent sustainable efficiency and innovative skin care. Sustainability is also of utmost importance when it comes to our products’ packaging. One of our long-term goals is to save on materials in packaging production, thereby actively contributing to energy and climate protection. In line with this, we are committing to offset production of the cardboard boxes of our Q10 and Hydro Effect Serum products. During production of this packaging, CO2 emissions are inevitable, but lavera compensates for this by supporting sustainability through Climate Partner, an environmental offset project organization.

Further offset methods

At lavera, we pay close attention to the packaging materials we choose, and actively work towards creating lighter, more sustainable packaging by using less paper and cold instead of hot stamping.

We supported the following offset project in 2017: Water purification in Kenya

The Climate Partner water purification project is dedicated to making clean drinking water accessible to households in rural Kenya through the use of water filters. Traditionally, water is purified for drinking by being boiled over firewood. The filters do not require any fuel or electricity. The project helps enhance water treatment by improving access to clean drinking water and reducing firewood consumption, leading to considerable reductions in CO2 emissions. Contaminated water contributes to increased health risks. According to the WHO, diarrhea is the third most common cause of death for children and adults in Kenya. This project improves public health by guaranteeing access to clean drinking water.

Further positive effects of the climate protection project

  • Reduction of sickness and mortality rates in children and adults, increasing productivity

  • Reduction of deforestation by decreasing demand for firewood

  • Employment for many thousands of Kenyans during distribution, and hundreds of jobs through annual inspections, education and maintenance

  • Improvement of indoor air quality

  • Minimizing school absenteeism

2018 sees us getting involved in an additional region of Kenya

Laverana’s sustainable support helps improve the health of people in rural Kenya and protects the climate by purifying drinking water without boiling it. The lack of access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation leads to serious diseases. They are the second most common cause of death in Sub-Saharan Africa, accounting for 315,000 deaths per year. To purify water for drinking, people have to boil it. This is usually done over an open fire using coal or firewood. The resulting smoke is an additional threat to people’s health, while the method itself uses up precious resources like wood.

The project, supported by Laverana, relies on technical filters and chemical water purifying methods, enabling people to avoid the boiling of water and related carbon emissions. This method is cost-effective and keeps water free from contamination for 72 hours.

Also active in Uganda and Malawi, the goal of the overall Climate Partner project is to enable a total of 25 million people to access purified drinking water by the year 2018.

The water treatment project improves living standards in rural Kenya by distributing water purification systems to poor households and institutions like schools or hospitals.

As a sustainable company, we are actively contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Goals 3, 6 – Good Health, Clean Water: The project helps reduce diseases related to unsafe drinking water and smoke from boiling water on inefficient stoves. The incidence of diarrhea is reduced by 41 percent. Goals 1, 5 – No Poverty, Gender Equality: Institutions and households, especially women, save time and income associated with acquiring firewood and boiling water. Goal 8 – Decent Work, Economic Growth: The project creates local job opportunities for the sale and distribution of water filters. Goal 15 – Life on Land: The reduced demand for firewood counteracts deforestation. Thus the project helps preserve livelihoods, local forests and biodiversity.

LAVERA HYDRO EFFECT SERUM

No life is possible without water. Likewise, moisture is an important ingredient in facial care.

Our Hydro Effect Serum with its highly effective anti-pollution complex, consisting of natural anti-oxidants and organic algae, protects the skin from negative environmental influences. A cocktail of natural, intensively moisturising substances (natural hyaluronic acid, glycerin, sodium PCA, sodium lactate and organic saccharides) actively builds up the skin’s moisture deposits.

Organic Algae
Algae possess skin-protective and anti-inflammatory properties, and in cosmetics work as a “skin-protecting agent”. Algal proteins infuse skin cells with energy and protect them from drying out. Vitamins activate the skin, protecting it from environmental influences, combating free radicals and functioning as a natural anti-ageing complex. The fucus serratus extract (brown serrated wrack) grows on the rocky cliffs of the European coastline and is harvested from the wild by hand.

Natural Hyaluronic Acid
Due to its ability to bind water, hyaluronic acid is a vital component of this moisturising recipe. It pads out the skin from within. Precious moisture deposits are filled, thus providing for increased connective tissue tautness, greater elasticity and reduced wrinkle depth.
